Finally wrapped this one up, and a bit rushed too, as noticeable on the textures. Started this Digital Tutors tutorial before my daughter was born in December 2012 and finally had the time and energy to finish it. It was a long tutorial, so I grew tired of it along the way as well, but it was fun to play around with some hard surface modeling and a fun type of robot. I chose to pose it up against the moon, so it would have some sort of purpose as a werebot. It’s my first project done with linear workflow and 32 bit floating point OpenEXR rendering in Maya, and that turned out to be the most interesting part of it all. Got that stuff from another DT tutorial by Jon Tojek – I really recommend you check him out for VFX tips. It’s great and valuable info he shares in his tutorials.
So I’m quite happy with the lighting of the robot at least, it could be better in many areas, but it could be a lot worse too.
It’s all Maya, ZBrush and post in Photoshop.
