Cocktail Menu Design for Nimb Bar
My final job at Tivoli and probably my favorite of them all. The bar manager and head bartender wanted to elevate the Nimb Bar experience internationally and came up with a H. C. Andersen inspired theme for a cocktail menu, as the story goes that H. C. Andersen was inspired to write The Nightingale when he visited Tivoli. The cocktails are uniquely developed for this purpose and features 10 alcoholic and 3 non-alcoholic. As his fairytales can be quite dark, we wanted a weird take on the illustrations to complement the story as well as the ingredients in the drinks. I got to work with my old colleague Martin Jørgensen on the illustrations, I did art direction and final artwork as well.
Rooted in the fairytales I obviously had to do a classic fairytale-looking book for the menu. The borders inside are a mix of classic Nimb borders with the modern twist of the Moorish star patterns. This is also present on the front page where a section of the big colored illustration is inserted into a Moorish star surrounded by more Moorish patterns. As it is a cocktail menu and people will inevitably smudge the cover and paper, the red leather on the cover is faux and printed, there is silver hotfoil though which is a nice touch and the cover as well as the pages inside are coated for a little protection.
